Climate to Climate: Our Tips for Traveling with Silk
Silk elevates the experience of travelling and creates a sense of ease when getting dressed each day. Silk pieces are lightweight, easy to care for, and adaptable to any climate. Step onto a plane in a slip dress when flying from a warmer climate and layer with a chunky sweater upon arrival. The softness of silk and the bias cut combine for ultimate comfort, carrying you from climate to climate. It keeps you warm in cooler temperatures, and keeps you cool in warmer temperatures.
Your skin and environment have an affect on your silk pieces as well. A dry climate like that of Marrakech or Arizona can cause fibres to become static, causing them to cling to you differently. This is easy to avoid considering one simple thing: silk loves humidity. We suggest to keep yourself hydrated and your skin moisturised. Your silk will thank you as this ensures your pieces flow softly, beautifully and comfortably without risk of static.
When traveling to a cooler climate, be it Reykjavik or Berlin, heated interior spaces often have very dry air which will strip your silk pieces of their humidity. To restore your silk, we recommend hanging it in the bathroom while you shower.
The simplest and most convenient way to clean silk, particularly when you’re away from home, is by hand. We encourage you to hand wash your silk pieces in cool water to nourish them, bringing the silk back to life and eliminating static.
Steaming your silk pieces helps to minimise creases and give the fabric the moisture it needs. If you do not have access to a steamer, you can hang your piece in the bathroom while you shower, or run your garment above the steam of a freshly boiled kettle of water.
Taking the risk of static out of the equation will ensure you experience the true pleasure of caring for and travelling with your silk pieces.
